Week Ending Sunday 27-JAN-2008

Bit of a quiet week really - no extra runs or cycle rides.

Thursday - 24-JAN-2008 - Football. Usual game on a Thursday night, with a selection of 12 (Good turnout!) of the guys.

Sides were:
Bibs - Jim, Pete, Steve, Jon, Lynchy & Ken
Colours - Rich, Wrighty, Martin (Breadman), Carl, Geoff & Fozz

Weather : Dry (not raining), with the surface being mainly dry, but with a few wet/slippery patches. There was a lot of mud in the corner nearest the shops. Quite cold, but not freezing. Colours had the best of the game in the first half, opening up a quite prodigious lead, but the Bibs brought it back to level just before the end. Bibs took the game with a goal at the end. There was some debate about whether the Bibs did manage to bring it back level, but I was keeping score, and from it being seven all, I counded two goals each way, before Bibs took the final goal. A very enjoyable game!

Friday - 25-JAN-2008

Had a gym induction at our new gym (Reflections, at the Park Royal Hotel, at Stretton - Internet Link) The induction took the form of a quick Blood Pressure check and Body Fat analysis. This flagged up the potential problem with high BP for me (160/104 was the figure, if I remember correctly). I was advised to arrange an appointment with my doctor to have this checked out, although this is probably due to the fact that I am >2 stone overweight, at 96kg (15st 2lbs).

The guy showing us round (Dan) first showed us around the Cardio room (treadmills, bikes [recumbent & sit-up], elliptical steppers wave steppers, rowers, gym balls & ab-cages), and then showed us the weights room, with a number of weights machines, and free weights. After the induction was over, we went into the cardio gym where I did the following:

15 mins on treadmill
10 mins on recumbent bike
5 mins on elliptical stepper
5 mins on rower
10 mins on wave stepper

Given the time (approx 9pm), we then had a swim rather than doing any weights. I did 6 lengths, 3 front crawl, 3 backstroke (not much, I know, but I can ramp it up). Also went in the hot spa (jacuzzi) and the sauna. Quite an enjoyable evening, all told.

Saturday - 26-JAN-2008

Quick bike ride - from Home to Sandiway shops (visiting butcher & library)

Fitness Diary - Week Ending 20-JAN-2008

Back on the fitness trail, after an 18+ month lay-off. With Kate doing her Sports Therapy Course at Hartford, she is keen on getting me fit! So, with that in mind, we have started to do a bit more "training". I'll try to detail each training item, but probably on a weekly basis.

Last Weekend

Saturday - Cycled from Home to Weaverham (bikes left there). Route?

Sunday - Ran back to Weaverham to pick up bikes, and then cycled back Home. Route?

This Week

Tuesday (15-JAN-2008) - Cycle Ride. Got home from work at about 19:30. By the time I had sorted the lights on the bikes and installed my new (allegedly comfy) seat, it was 20:30 or so! Aiming for a roughtly 1-hour ride, we decided to cycle to Weaverham, and then through to Acton Bridge, down the rather severe hill to the A49, past the Rheingold, carrying on up the "new" road to the top roundabout. From there, past Weaverham High School, along Lime Avenue to Northwich Road, and then back to Hartford via Bradburns Lane and Chester Road. Route? The weather was terrible, with wind and rain throughout. Not the most enjoyable cycle ride I've ever been on!

Thursday (17-JAN-2008) - Football. Usual game on a Thursday night, with a selection of 9 of the guys. Sides were:

Bibs - Jim, Pete, Carl, Nige & Tommo (young lad, 15, makes up the numbers occasionally)

Colours - Jon, Rich, Steve, Wrighty & Martin (Breadman)

Weather : Dry (not raining), but the surface was wet/slippery, with a lot of mud in the corner nearest the shops. Quite cold, but not freezing, and windy too.

Colours dominated the game in the first half, opening up a quite prodigious lead, but the Bibs brought it back to level just before the end. Colours took the game with a goal at the end.

Saturday (19-JAN-2008) - I got a new haircut! We enrolled (well, filled out appication forms) at the Park Royal Gym (called "Reflections"). We went in the gym, but were unable to do any proper gym work or training until we have done an induction. We had a swim in the 22m pool, and went into the sauna and steam room.
